IEEE Format Journal: Prepare Your Paper in IEEE Two-Column Style

How IEEE two-column format works, the mistakes that slow review down, and where to download IJVAST's free template.

Last updated:

IEEE format is the most common layout in engineering and computer science: two columns, Times New Roman, numbered section headings, and numbered references in square brackets. IJVAST publishes every paper in this format, which makes your paper look familiar to examiners and recruiters and easy to cite.

Starting in our template saves you formatting work later and lets editors focus on your research instead of your layout.

The IEEE layout in brief

  • Title, authors and affiliations centred across the full page width.
  • Abstract (150 to 250 words) and Index Terms (keywords).
  • Body in two columns, Times New Roman 10 pt.
  • Section headings numbered with Roman numerals (I. INTRODUCTION), subsections lettered (A., B.).
  • Figures and tables numbered, with captions; table captions above, figure captions below.
  • Equations numbered on the right in parentheses.
  • References numbered [1], [2] in the order they are cited.

Common mistakes that slow review

  • Pasting text in a single column and leaving formatting to the editor.
  • Low-resolution screenshots for figures; export at 300 dpi where possible.
  • References listed alphabetically or missing years and page numbers.
  • Equations typed as images instead of with the Word equation editor.
  • Author emails or affiliations missing for co-authors.

How to submit, step by step

  • Create a free author account and submit through the Submit Paper page.
  • Watch your email and author dashboard: the editorial decision normally comes within 48 hours.

What IJVAST does not claim

IJVAST is not listed in UGC-CARE, Scopus or Web of Science and does not have an impact factor. We would rather you know this before you submit than after. If your university, scholarship or promotion rule requires one of those listings specifically, check with your guide or department first. For coursework, project reports, conference-style publication, skill building, placement portfolios and an early publication record, a peer-reviewed open-access journal with an ISSN and Crossref DOIs is often exactly what students need.

Frequently asked questions

Can I submit in a single column?

Please use the template. Papers already in IEEE format move through review and proofing faster.

Is LaTeX accepted?

Submit a Word file or a PDF produced from IEEE LaTeX. The Word template is recommended for students.

How long does review take?

The editorial target is 48 hours from submission to a first decision. Papers needing major revision take longer because you have to revise and resubmit.

How much does it cost?

Rs 1,200 for Indian authors (18% GST included) or USD 25 for international authors, charged only after acceptance. There is no submission fee.

Is IJVAST UGC-CARE or Scopus listed?

No. IJVAST holds ISSN 2839-5379, assigns Crossref DOIs and publishes open access, but it is not listed in UGC-CARE, Scopus or Web of Science.
